Well, the girls paid the price for the epic water fight yesterday - both combatants got eaten alive by the ubiquitous and stealthy Italian mosquitoes. Natalie with 39 bites and Charlotte with 57! This morning was slow going with the girls favoring their itchy legs. Once we got to the beach though, everyone perked up! Once you get over the fact that you generally have to pay handsomely to use an Italian beach, it's all about which bagno you choose! Today we tried Bagno Angelo. It has the usual amenities -- change rooms, restaurant and our own personal cabana with seating and shade -- and was well located to our house! We enjoyed another fun day in the sun but Jacqui got a little freaked when she saw a jelly fish in the water! I wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else in the heat of the afternoon but reading my book in our cabana! I'm reading My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante which is set in Naples in the 50's. The protagonist took a beach vacation to an area quite close to where we are now - I just love sitting here imagining her adventures!
We are enjoying the routine of coming home, getting freshened up and then taking our aperativo at the same bar every evening. The waiters know us now, the kids have some freedom to walk up and down the pedestrian street and look at what the tchotchke sellers have on offer and Jack and I thoroughly enjoy visual feast that is the evening processional past our table.
